Twitter Increases Character Count to 280 characters

Ever since its inception, Twitter restricted the character count of tweets posted to 140 characters, but it appears things are going to change in the near future.   The company announced that it’s increasing the character count from 140 to 280 characters, but it will start off with a limited number of people.  The blog post said:                                                             ''We want every person around the world to easily express themselves on Twitter, so we’re doing something new: we’re going to try out a longer limit, 280 characters, in languages impacted by cramming (which is all except Japanese, Chinese, and Korean). Although this is only available to a small group right now, we want to be transparent about why we are excited to try this''.
The company explained in the blog post how people ran into the 140 words limit, especially in English language where as people writing their tweets in other languages like Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc had much more room to share their thoughts and get the word out. The thing is, you can express a lot more in a single word when you’re writing in Japanese or Chinese compared to English, which is one of the reasons why the company decided to increase the count for languages like English or French, etc.The new limit is not going to roll out for Japanese, Chinese and Korean, but rest of the users with other languages should get the new feature very soon.
