Steve Forde and his wife Shelley painted ‘Harry’s’ nursery blue after an ultrasound told them what to expect
A couple spent hundreds of pounds preparing for a son after they were told they were having a boy – only for the mum to give birth to a little girl.
Steve Forde and his wife Shelley painted ‘Harry’s’ nursery blue after an ultrasound told them what to expect, the Evening Standard reports.
But when the big day came on February 16, the gender scan they had paid £79 for 16 weeks into the pregnancy turned out to be wrong.
Mrs Forde gave birth on the floor of her dining room at the family home in Esher, Surrey, two weeks before her due date, the London paper reports.
IT consultant Mr Forde told the paper: “Shelley did amazingly and after a bit of wiping down what I thought was Harry was straight into my arms, wrapped up.
“It was only when the midwives arrived and started taking charge of things that I realised my mistake.
“One of them put Harry on the scales and just said, ‘This is a girl’.”
And so baby Harry became baby Lola, who weighed 6lbs 5oz, much to the couple’s delight.
