Charles and Diana's wedding: Behind-the-scene photos taken in 1981 are to be auctioned off

  • Dozen previously unpublished photos of the 1981 royal wedding will be sold at auction in Boston next month
  • They show Diana and Charles as newlyweds in Buckingham Palace, moments after becoming man and wife

At her side is Queen, who had just moments ago become her mother-in-law when she married Charles, the Prince of Wales, in a ceremony held at St Paul's Cathedral.
The scene, striking in its intimacy and candidness, is one of a dozen previously unpublished photos of the 1981 royal wedding that will be sold at auction next month.
The pictures were taken by a relative and the only photographer was allowed to take informal photographs of the royal family and their guests when they returned to the palace for the reception.
Six of the photos depict Princess Diana in her wedding dress with members of her own family as well as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Princess Ann, Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew. In some, Diana is holding 5-year-old Clementine Hambro, her youngest bridesmaid.
