American hip-hop mogul Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter has revealed that his new album ‘4:44’ was a means of getting therapy.
Recording the album and releasing it, Jay-Z said, was a therapeutic process.
He said it availed him the opportunity to “speak my truth,” adding that being honest about his life has always been his modus operandi on all his previous albums.
“I put it out because it’s really therapeutic for myself to get to a space where I’m not hiding behind anything – no mask and just really speak my truth,” he told BBC Radio.
“Again, It’s really more an extension of what I’ve been doing. If you listen to ‘You Must Love Me’ in 1997, you didn’t know who my mum was of even knew her name.”
The Roc Nation founder confessed that he bootlegged the leaked episode of television series Game of Thrones.
Expressing remorse for the act, Jay-Z explained the circumstances that led to it, saying: “Game of Thrones. I actually stole I feel bad, I feel guilty, I stole that episode they put out, the leaked episode. But I was flying on the plane, I think I deserve that. What you want me to do? People bootleg my album. I watched on Sunday to give them the rating.”
Jay-Z called US President Donald Trump a “joke” but said Americans are equipped to survive him, saying, “I believe that everything that happens in life is for your greatest good. I don’t think that this is happening if we weren’t prepared to handle it. I’m just looking forward to what’s next after that because usually when things are darkest, it’s then light is on its way”.
The father of two said his home is always alive with “music, just family, friends, music and a lot of food.. we are always eating”.
